Former Australian Test wicketkeeper Matthew Wade has been found guilty of the rare charge of pitch tampering and therefore, been suspended from playing Sheffield Shield cricket.

According to Fox Sports, in a dramatic development for Wade's hopes of playing for Australia again, figuring in the Ashes if Brad Haddin is injured, the Victorian captain has been rubbed out from his next Shield game.

Wade was reported by umpires Ian Lock and Sam Nogajski and was found guilty of breaching Cricket Australia's Code of Behaviour following his team's Sheffield Shield match against the Tasmanian Tigers at Blundstone Arena, the report said.

Wade denied the charge and moved to have the matter heard before a full disciplinary hearing led by Match Referee Daryl Harper who upheld the guilty verdict, the report added.

He was penalised 50 per cent of his match fee and two suspension points, which will result in him missing the next round of the Bupa Sheffield Shield, according to the report.
