Australia swashbuckling one-day cricketer Glenn Maxwell has described teammate Steve Smith as one of the best batters in the Test line-up, stating that he hopes to replicate the latter's performance to revive his Test career.

Smith, who was not even considered good enough to even be in Australia's summer-opening one-day side against South Africa, made a stunning return and was eventually was made stand-in skipper in the recently concluded Test series against India.

Inspired by Smith's success, Maxwell said that the guy he look up to the most in that respect was Steve Smith.

Maxwell further said that the way he changed his game from coming into the Test team as a leg-spinner in (2010) and moulded his game into what's now one of Australia's best batters in the Test line-up and one of the first picked, News.com.au reported.

Eyeing on staging a strong Test comeback, the big-hitting batsman opined that Smith was someone he had watched over the past 12 months, how he had turned it around, adding that hopefully he could do something similar this year.

Maxwell has been in a terrific form during the ongoing World Cup, registering three of the five fastest 50s by an Australian in the tournament's history.

The big-hitting batsman maintained that the way he thought he was going to get back into the Test team was by playing really well during this World Cup.
