McCullum says NZ spinners need to do better following drawn first Test against Bangladesh

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum has said that his team's spinner need to perform better after Bangladesh gave them a close fight in the first drawn Test played at Chittagong.

According to Stuff.co.nz, the New Zealand skipper pushed late in the test for a result with a day-five declaration, setting the home side 256 to win in a minimum 45 overs.

Bangladesh reached 173-3 in reply as the Black Caps got through 48.2 overs and 37 were bowled by spinners on a still largely unresponsive Chittagong wicket, the report said.

The teams meet again in a week in Dhaka and McCullum wants the same effort from his batsmen and hard-working seamers, but demanded more from the fielding effort and expected continued improvement from the tweakers, the report added.

McCullum said that his team played some good cricket but so did Bangladesh and a draw was a fair result.

Although McCullum may not have acknowledged it, the spin bowling will be an issue within the Black Caps' camp, the report further said.

As expected the New Zealand spinners were out-bowled by the home sides' counterparts, especially Sohag Gazi on the final day, according to the report.
