World number one Rory McIlroy has said that he is relishing his role in Europe's Ryder Cup team despite accepting that he has greater responsibility there.

The Northern Irish golf ace, who is on top of the world rankings after winning back-to-back majors earlier this year, said that he had no qualms about being a target for the United States in the match at Gleneagles next week.

McIlroy said that he was world number one in 2012, but this is his third Ryder Cup and he is not a rookie anymore. He said that he has got more responsibility, The BBC reported.

The Northern Irishman said that there are still a few guys older than him but added that he is somewhat of a leader and will try to set an example and lead from the front. He said that he is hopeful captain Paul McGinley puts that trust in him and he can go and lead the team out and hopefully get a few points on the board for Europe.
