Northern Irish golf ace Rory McIlroy reportedly faced a difficult day, slipping down the leaderboard following a disastrous round of 76 on Friday at the Wells Fargo Championships in Charlotte.
McIlroy's hopes of repeating his 2010 win took a back seat when he suffered a back-to-back double bogeys at holes three and four, while further losses at two, six and 16 had been only partially offset by three birdies to leave the Northern Irishman at one over and spared the cut by a single stroke.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwean golfer Brendon de Jonge shocked everyone after starting the day dead last on the leaderboard but turning the tables around 24 hours later with a 10-under par 62 vaulting him up the standings and back to two under overall, the Guardian reported.
De Jonge, who is seven shots off the joint leaders American golfer Martin Flores and Argentine golfer Angel Cabrera, said that he wishes he could go into every round with that kind of a mind set, but it is easier said than done.
The Charlotte event has been more consistent for Argentine veteran Cabrera as he maintained his top spot at the leaderboard after leading by one shot after a first-round 66 and followed up with a 69 on Friday.
Cabrera has been joined by Flores at the top spot after adding a 68 to his opening 67, the report added.
