An alcoholic, who was knocked down in car crash, has woken up teetotal after the accident made him forget he was addicted to booze.
The 57-year-old John Boulter, who can't remember being an alcoholic, said that he has been devastated by the accident, but he has got to be thankful that he is alive, the Mirror reported.
Boulter added that when doctors told him that he had been drinking eight cans of lager along with bottles of whisky a day, he thought they must've got him mixed up with another patient.
Formerly a hard worker, Boulter started drinking a couple of years before the accident when he had a partner who drank heavily. Then in December 2007, the couple had an argument before Boulter tried to cross the road to get a bus.
The father of two, who had been drinking, was hit by a taxi, suffering multiple skull fractures and bleeding on the brain. He also had a shattered ankle, broken ribs and damaged glands in his eye.
Boulter, who spent five months in hospital and another three having physiotherapy, said that he doesn't remember any-thing about the crash. he was in intensive care, but doesn't recall.
However, the accident also helped Boulter find love with Christine Bearley, a nurse who helped with his rehabilitation.
In 2014, Boulter, who now has mood swings and phobias, and had to give up work restoring machinery, had 410,000 pounds in compensation approved at Birmingham High Court.
He said that he has been told the compensation is what he deserves for what he has had to go through.
Karen Smith, from Neil Hudgell Solicitors who settled John's claim, said that the accident changed Boulter's life for the worse and for the better.
