Meeting with Pak NSA not an attempt to score brownie points: Mirwaiz

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the chairman of moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference, on Wednesday said that his proposed meeting with Pakistan's National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz should not be 'politicised' as the common intent of both sides is a peaceful dialogue between the two neighbouring nations and resolution to the Kashmir conflict.

"An issue should not be made out of this meeting. Our intention is that India and Pakistan should have dialogue as there is no other option to peace. People on both sides are dying every day, what can be more important that both the nations talk now? This is a start," Mirwaiz Farooq told ANI here.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said in his Dubai address that at the end of the day we have to solve the issues on table though dialogue," he added.

He further said that both nations should establish a peaceful dialogue and then a mechanism of involving Kashmiris in such decisions should be put in place.

Mirwaiz Farooq also appealed to the Congress and other parties to not politicise this issue as there are other matters that can be politicized.

"This is a humanitarian issue. Since 65 years, both nations are suffering from this conflict. We want to begin a process of peace and we don't want this meet to be taken negatively," he said.

Pakistan's High Commissioner Abdul Basit has extended an invitation to Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani and other Hurriyat leaders for a reception party to be held on August 23 in honour of Sartaj Aziz.
