The Jammu and Kashmir Meteorological Department on Thursday said that the skies would be clear throughout the day, but added that light rainfall was expected in the evening.
Earlier On Monday the state government had declared the region flooded after two days of continuous rains caused the waters of the Jhelum River to surge over the danger mark.
However, the break in the weather has allowed the Jhelum River and many others to recede back to safe levels.
"Since 5.30 a.m till now, there are no reports of rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir. Light rainfall and moderate rainfall is expected in some areas. But we have not issued any warning of heavy rainfall," said Sonam Lotus, Director of Indian Meteorological Department.
People in Pooch district of the valley thronged markets to buy essential commodities.
"It was raining in Poonch since last five days, roads were damaged and traveling had become quite difficult and people suffered a lot. Today sky is clear and we are relieved and expect that weather stays like this in the coming days," said Nasir Khan, a resident.
Scientists warned that climate change-related floods will occur more frequently in the future and experts in Kashmir agreed that the region needs an alternate flood channel.
