The apparent "disappearance" of the Loch Ness monster for the first time in 90 years has sparked speculations that the creature may be dead.

Gary Campbell, president of the Official Loch Ness Monster Fan Club and veteran Nessie spotter, said that it's very upsetting news and they don't know where she's gone, the Daily Star reported.

Campbell, who has been logging Nessie sightings for 17 years, asserted that the number of sightings has been reducing since the turn of the century but this is the first time in almost 90 years that Nessie wasn't seen at all.

Campbell is, however, confident that someone will soon see the fabled creature again as pretty much everyone now carries a smart phone with a camera and that means that they don't just have to rely on eyewitness evidence.
