Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad has said that he is considering running for the post of chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), with his announcement receiving support from various quarters.

According to the Daily Times, Miandad, who has been director general of the PCB since November 2008, said that he would make a final decision once the ambiguity over the mechanism of PCB chairman's election becomes clearer.

Stating that fans, former cricketers and his well-wishers have all urged him to run for the position in the upcoming elections, Miandad said that the PCB belongs to cricketers, adding that it is sad that the contractual employees, even former cricketers, are being relieved of their jobs, putting them in financial difficulties.

Miandad further said that if the PCB feels that employees are a burden on them then they should remove top-ranked officials rather than the low-grade staffers, adding that he had even offered to step down to save jobs of the board's employees previously.

Criticising some 'individuals' who he thinks are misguiding the current PCB management, Miandad said that the position of the PCB chairman does not attract him at all and if he decides to go for it then it should only be for the betterment of cricket in Pakistan.
