Miley Cyrus and Justin Timberlake may fall prey to US sanctions on Russia

Miley Cyrus and Justin Timberlake may be forced to cancel one of their concerts in Finland in June because of the sanctions imposed by the US on Russia.

Gennady Timchenko and brothers Arkady and Boris Rotenberg, all of who appear as Russian President Vladimir Putin's "inner circle" are the owners of Helsinki's Hartwall venue, which would be hosting the popstars, BBC reported.

The three also own Arena Events Oy, which bought the Helsinki Hartwall Arena last year, as well as have a minority stake in the local hockey club, Jokerit.

Under the US sanctions no US citizen or business can provide Timchenko or the Rotenberg brothers with "Economic resources", effectively preventing business from being conducted with them.

Tom Stocker, partner at law firm Pinsent Mason said that US Office of Foreign Assets Control (Ofac) needs to provide a license to authorize the transaction and will have to take into account that the show forms part of a pre-existing agreement.

Stocker said that the individuals themselves could not do anything in furtherance of the concerts while on US soil and they could not send emails to their US management while on American soil, they could not discuss arrangements for the concert.

Other acts due to appear this summer include Robbie Williams, Peter Gabriel, Aerosmith and Elton John.
