Union Health Minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan, motivated Delhi to 'walk for health' as he flagged off the third edition of a walkathon from India Gate early this morning.

The health minister said walking regularly helps to restore life balance, makes people calmer, happier and more positive towards life.

"On today's occasion, I would like to appeal all Indians to make walking a part of their life, walking for at least 30-45 minutes everyday. They should make it an inseparable part of their lifestyle and include it in their daily routine. There should be a walkers club in every city," Vardhan said.

The youth today are more under pressure and stress and need to focus on a healthy lifestyle and simple walking can pave the way for one, he said.

The last two editions of the event had thousands of people register and join the walkathon in New Delhi and Mumbai, making it a successful event. People are invited to walk with their friends and relatives to participate in the 5 km or the 2 km walk.

A number of celebrities, corporate brands and TV networks participated in the event to add to the buzz and energy. CEO of Max Bupa, Manasije Mishra said that this initiative aims to encourage people to have a healthy lifestyle by integrating walking in their daily schedule.

"Walking is such a thing which doesn't need any equipment, you don't have to pay the membership fee of any gym, and you do not need any trainer. You just need to devote half an hour everyday for walk and this will put a positive impact on your health. So walk for health, walk for 30 minutes a day regularly and it will have a very positive impact on your health," Mishra said.

Max Bupa Health Insurance Company has organised this health event in association with a private news channel. It is an initiative which urges people to walk towards a healthier life with their families.
