Following a sluggish start to the game, Williams asked for a cup of coffee to perk herself up and the next half of the game saw her winning the match in three sets, 0-6 6-3 6-0 over Italian Flavia Pennetta, reported News.com.au.
Williams, who arrived in Perth on Saturday, was 5-0 down in the first set when she asked a ball girl to fetch her espresso. The temperature was around 30s at the time.
After receiving her caffeine fix, the 33-year-old started to find her groove in the second set and after Pennetta's serving game capitulated, Williams stormed back into the game to win the match in 89 minutes.
Calling her cup of caffeine, a "miracle coffee," Williams said that she is a coffee drinker and as she skipped her cup of coffee in the morning, she badly needed an "espresso shot.
