Misbah 'unhappy' at not being consulted over Pak team selection for Zimbabwe series

Pakistan Test and one-day skipper Misbah-ul Haq has reportedly expressed his unhappiness at not being consulted in the selection of the squad for the ongoing tour of Zimbabwe.

According to the Daily Times, the national selectors, who are functioning without a chief selector, announced the squads for the Zimbabwe series in all the formats while Misbah was away in the West Indies playing in the Caribbean Premier League.

The report added that Misbah met Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) interim chairman Najam Sethi to convey his reservations about the selection committee, along with the issue of the late payments of match fees to the players.

According to a source, Misbah felt that Rizwan Ahmed, who was sent to the West Indies as wicketkeeper, should have been tried and given a chance when Umar Akmal was ruled out of the series, instead of sending Sarfaraz Ahmed for the Twenty20 and the one-day international matches in the Zimbabwe series.

The source further said that while Misbah did not argue against the appointment of former captain Moin Khan as manager of the national team, he had however, sought clear directions from the PCB on the job description and domain of Khan.

The report mentioned that the selectors included Rizwan in the Pakistan Under-23 squad playing in the ACC Emerging Teams Cup in Singapore, while recalling Adnan Akmal for the two Tests in Zimbabwe and retained Umar Akmal as wicketkeeper in the T20 and ODI squads for the series.
