Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday flagged off 'Night Marathon' in Surat.
Modi congratulated the participants and said it was not only for prizes or fun but also about society.
"The event has been organised to raise funds to install CCTV network in the city and to help cancer patients. Your joining this marathon contributes to the social welfare," Modi said.
Ace athlete Milkha Singh also graced the occasion.
Meanwhile, security was stepped up during the event and CCTV cameras were also installed and reportedly around 35, 000 people took part in the night marathon.
