During his visit to Brazil to attend the VIth BRICS Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also inaugurated the Indian Embassy building in Brasilia with the aim of establishing the country as a new global business centre.

Modi left Brazil on Thursday after attending the five-nation BRICS summit in the coastal city of Fortaleza.

During his visit, Modi met and held bilateral talks with Chinese and Russian President, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.

Modi also met a group of South American leaders to foster cooperation between the two regions.

This is perhaps the first time that an Indian prime minister is getting an opportunity to meet and speak to a group of South American leaders.

At a BRICS private working session, Modi also met Brazil's President, Dilma Rousseff.

Modi described the sixth summit hosted by Brazil as a historic one, which has produced two important agreements - the New Development Bank and the BRICS Contingent Reserve Arrangement - and lauded Rousseff for her guidance during the summit.

The sixth BRICS summit was held in the cities of Fortaleza and Brasilia. It was Modi's first multilateral meeting after assuming office in May.

Leaders of the five top emerging markets in BRICS nations sealed the deal to foster financial and development cooperation and keep the monetary tap running in the face of a financial meltdown, like the 2008 crisis.
