Former Pakistan batsman Mohammad Wasim has backed young opener Ahmed Shehzad to take over the team's Twenty20 and the one-day captaincies after the 2015 World Cup.
Wasim pointed out the fact that as Pakistan cricket has been run on a day-to-day basis for decades, they have never been consistent in any format of the game and always relying on patchy brilliance.
According to www.pakpassion.net, Wasim said that it would be a positive sign for Pakistani cricket if Shehzad takes over as T20 captain as he has the ability to work on his man management skills and learn as quickly as possible, adding that he is also the right choice as ODI captain although more grooming is necessary before he takes that post.
Stating that the 2015 World Cup is a good benchmark for a new era in Pakistan cricket, Wasim also said that even though Misbah-ul-Haq is doing a great job in ODIs, he needs to finish on a high note and leave some sort of legacy, adding that it is now time for Misbah, Younis Khan and Shahid Afridi to hang up their boots from all formats.
However, Wasim picked out Azhar Ali for the Test captain role as he believes Ali has the personality and temperament for the job plus he is one of the most consistent performers in the Test team and still has a good few years of cricket left in him.
