Monsoon likely to arrive by June 5: IMD

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said the much-awaited monsoon is expected to arrive by June 5 this year, five days later than the usual start date.

"Monsoon does not reach North India by the first week of June; more likely to appear in Kerala. As per our study, there is positive development and monsoon shall arrive by June 5. This is normal," B P Yadav, director of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), told ANI.

"In Delhi there has been a dip in temperature as told earlier. Clouds, light showers, evasion of heat wave etc have been seen," he added.

Light showers were witnessed in the national capital today with the minimum temperature at 25.9 degrees Celsius.

Partly cloudy skies, along with the possibility of dust and thunder storms accompanied by squall are likely to occur in some parts of the city this evening.
