Capt Saurabh Kalia's dad optimistic of SC directing Govt. to pursue case in IJC

N.K. Kalia, the father of martyred Captain Saurabh Kalia, on Monday expressed the hope that the Supreme Court would direct the central government to take up his son's case at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

"It is sad and unfortunate that the Government of India is not taking concrete steps in this direction. This case is pending with the Supreme Court. I'm optimistic that the honorable court will take appropriate and suitable action and direct the Government of India to take up this matter with Pakistan and the ICJ," N.K. Kalia told ANI.

The government has reportedly stated that it was not feasible to pursue the matter in the ICJ.

Captain Kalia, along with five other soldiers were taken prisoners by Pakistani troops during the Kargil War in 1999. They were held captive and allegedly tortured before their badly mangled bodies were handed back to the Indian authorities on June 9, 1999.

The site of the tortured bodies caused an uproar across the nation, as the torturing of Prisoners of War (PoW) went against the Geneva

Convention.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has consistently denied the charges of torture, stating that the soldiers may have died because of poor weather conditions.
