Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Tariq Anwar on Wednesday said that the morale of Uddhav Thackeray and Shiv Sena is high because it has become evident from the bypoll results that the 'BJP wave' isn't there anymore. He also said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also under pressure due to the results of the bypolls.
"Every political party is independent to take their decisions. One thing is for sure that the BJP is under pressure due to the results of the bypolls which were declared yesterday. The morale of Uddhav Thackeray and the Shiv Sena is high because it has become evident from yesterday's poll results that the 'BJP wave' isn't there anymore. BJP will have to compromise," Anwar told ANI.
When asked to comment on the setback to the BJP in Uttar Pradesh during bypolls, Anwar said, "This is indeed a major setback for BJP, looking at their performance during Lok Sabha elections and the way 'Modi Wave' was flowing. Now during the bypolls, the 'Modi Wave' was nowhere to be seen."
The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is currently at an impasse over seat-sharing differences and also on who will be the chief minister in the event of a victory.
Earlier on Sunday, BJP had said that they were intending to contest from 135 of the total 288 seats, which is higher when compared to the 119 seats that the BJP contested during 2009 assembly elections in Maharashtra.
The Maharashtra assembly polls are scheduled to be held on October 15.
