More than quarter of babies born in England are to foreign mothers: Study

Recently revealed figures by Office for National Statistics state that more than a quarter of babies in England and Wales in 2012 have been born to foreign mothers.

According to the Daily Express, this trend has contributed to a baby boom which was not seen in 40 years.

The figures indicated to the number of children born outside of marriage or civil partnership on course to reach 50 per cent within three years.

The report revealed that 25.9 percent of births involved mothers born outside of the UK, and the average age to give birth was now 29.8 years, up from 29.7 years in 2011.

Sir Andrew Green of the Migration Watch think tank said that immigration was pushing up population and stretching public services adding that over two thirds of our population increase is a result of immigration.

According to the report, maternity services are under strain due to the number of births to foreign women additionally the rise in 2012 represents a continuation of the increasing age of mothers recorded since 1976 reflecting the increasing numbers of women delaying childbearing to later ages.
