Mourinho slams 'philosophizing' critics for questioning Chelsea's 'defensive' tactics in recent games

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly hit out at critics questioning his side's tactics in recent matches by saying that football is filled with 'philosophers' at the moment.

Chelsea's defensive approach was highlighted after a goalless Champions League semi-final first leg at Atletico Madrid and a 2-0 win at Liverpool, with Mourinho eyeing a third Champions League title with as many clubs if Chelsea can qualify for the final in Lisbon.

According to the BBC, Mourinho slammed the critics of his style by branding them as 'philosophers who understand the game more than him', adding that the team that does not defend well does not have many chances to win trophies.

The report mentioned that Chelsea had only 31 percent of possession at Atletico Madrid in last week's first leg and 27 percent of possession in the win against Liverpool on Sunday to keep alive their Premier League title hopes, which led Brendan Rodgers to say Chelsea had 'parked two buses' in an attempt to keep his side from scoring.

However, Mourinho defended his tactics, saying that if the opponent is very fast and needs space behind a club's defence and they give them that space, then the club is 'stupid'.

Should Chelsea reach the Champions League final, Mourinho will face former club Real Madrid, who thrashed holders Bayern Munich 4-0 in Germany to win 5-0 on aggregate, the report added.
