Terming the Madhya Pradesh twin train mishap as 'unfortunate', Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday said effective steps have to be taken to prevent the reoccurrence of such incidents.

"An unfortunate railway accident has taken place in Madhya Pradesh, some people have lost their lives and some are injured. The Railway Minister is on his way to Madhya Pradesh to visit and meet the victims and also to find out what exactly happened," Naidu told media persons.

"Once he (Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu) comes back, a statement will be made in the Parliament about the tragedy, reasons and actions taken by the government...Effective steps have to be taken prevent reoccurrence of such incidents,' he added.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that Railway officials are working efficiently to provide relief to those affected by the tragedy.

"This incident is very unfortunate and sad. Railway Ministry and officials are efficiently working towards providing relief to those affected," Naqvi told ANI.

At least 28 people have died after two passenger trains, Kamayani Express and Janata Express, derailed within minutes of each other while crossing flooded tracks in Madhya Pradesh last night.
