British number one Andy Murray has revealed that he would play for Scotland if the nation votes for independence next month.
Murray, who was born in Glasgow and raised in Dunblane, has said that he is ready to play for Scotland should it vote to go on its own way after the referendum, adding that he has been following the buildup to September's referendum.
Murray, who lives in London, has been reluctant to air his opinions on the vote, having been caught out in the past when discussing the relative merits of England and Scotland, The Guardian reported.
But the Scot said that he has been closely following the buildup to the referendum on 18 September and watched 45 minutes of the second debate between Alex Salmond and Alistair Darling.
Murray also said that he has not thought that much about playing for an independent Scotland because he does not think it's looking too likely that it's going to happen. But, he added that if it did happen, then it would be pretty much the first time in his life that he would have ever had the chance to play for Scotland. If the yes campaign succeeds it will see Murray play under the Scottish flag at the 2016 Rio Olympics, four years after he won gold for Great Britain at the 2012 London games. He would also be available for Scotland in Davis Cup matches, the report added.
