Britain's Andy Murray will face defending champion Rafael Nadal in the finals of the Madrid Open after defeating Japanese Kei Nishikori in their semi-final clash.

The world number three produced an outstanding performance to defeat Nishikori 6-3, 6-4.

Fourth seeded Nishikori struggled to return Murray's serves as the British number one cruised to his first Masters final on clay.

Reflecting on his performance, Murray said that his backhand was really good, which enabled him to put his Japanese opponent under a lot of pressure, the BBC reported.

The British number one would be aiming to win back-to-back clay-court titles after his first ATP title on the surface in Munich last week.

Earlier, Nadal looked to return to his best, defeating Tomas Berdych quite comfortably and earning the place in the finals.

The Spaniard displayed an outstanding game on clay, beating his Czech opponent 7-6(7-3), 6-1 to enter the final.
