Festivals play an important role in bringing together people and fostering a spirit of brotherhood. The holy festival of Eid was recently celebrated across the northeast with much fervor.

A large number of Muslims gathered at the Gedu Mia mosque in Agartala to offer prayers on Eid-ul-fitr, the end of holy month of Ramzan.

They exchanged greetings and embraced each other. The message was to promote peace and tranquility in the region and the entire country.

"This is a festival of brotherhood, happiness and together for everyone and every Indian," said Sofikul Rehman, a local.

In Guwahati, similar spirit of celebration was witnessed as people gathered in large number for Namaz at the Maskhowa Eid Gah field.

"On this auspicious occasion we pray for peace. We have seen that riots and other violent activities are happening in many places. We do not want such things to happen here. People from all religion live together and we celebrate all the festivals with equal enthusiasm," said a local.

A large percentage of Muslim population resides in Manipur and they all came together on this occasion to take part in the ceremonies and feasts along with other communities and tribes.

"On this auspicious occasion, I want to give a message to everyone that the festival of Eid teaches us to forget enmity and live together with love. I pray to God that all my brothers and sisters should work for the development of the country," added, Md. Aksar Ali, another local.

The Northeast region is home to various indigenous tribes and religions, who celebrate their festivals and fairs together in harmony.
