North Korea has denied reports of executing several members of the Unhasu Orchestra, including Kim Jong Un's ex-girlfriend, for covering up the past of its first lady as work of "psychopaths" and "confrontation maniacs" in the South Korean government and media.

North has reacted sharply to the reports as unpardonable, hideous provocation hurting the dignity of the supreme leadership, News.com.au reports.

South Korean media had claimed police had secretly recorded conversations between the entertainers of the orchestra confirming that Kim's wife, Ri Sol-Ju, who is a former member of the orchestra, used to play around in the same manner as they did.

According to the report, the execution of state performers had been ordered to suppress the rumours of Ri's immoral lifestyle while she was an entertainer.

Several members of the North's Unhasu Orchestra and other state music troupes had been executed by firing squad for taping themselves having sex.

The denial came a day after the North indefinitely postponed reunions for families divided by the Korean War, citing South Korean hostility, slander and provocation.
