Union Minister of Minority Affairs Dr. Najma Heptulla has decided not to celebrate the Bakrid (Eid-ul-Zuha) this year in view of the devastating floods and damages suffered in Jammu and Kashmir and the loss of lives in the stampede at Patna's Gandhi Maidan.
She has decided to donate the amount to be incurred for Eid celebrations from her personal funds to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.
Extending her greetings on the eve of Eid, she said here today that the festival is observed by all Muslims across the world at the end of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.
The Prime Minister has already announced the package of Rs. 1000 crores for the rehabilitation of flood victims.
Dr. Heptulla had earlier announced a special package of Rs. 120 crores for relief and rehabilitation of Jammu and Kashmir flood victims, under various schemes of the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
