A privilege motion was moved in the Jammu and Kashmir State Assembly against former chief of army staff General V K Singh on Monday for alleging that the army had paid money to politicians in the state for getting certain stability-related jobs done.
State Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mir Saifullah informed the House that the National Conference has moved a privilege motion against General Singh.
Speaker Mubarak Gul confirmed receiving the motion and said he will take a decision after going through it.
Earlier, state finance minister Abdul Rahim Rather said General Singh's allegations has put the "esteem of the country, the legislature and its members at stake".
He said that a privilege motion is the only way to bring General Singh before the House, and if necessary, to proceed against him.
Rather said there was a need for General Singh to furnish the names of the politicians who had received funds from the army.
CPI(M) MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami suggested that the government introduce a resolution to condemn the allegations made by General Singh, but this proposal was shot down by National Panthers Party member Harsh Dev Singh and independent MLA Sheikh Abdul Rashid.
