NDMC to launch initiative for empowering beggars, ragpickers

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has said that it will launch an initiative called 'Aatm Nirbhar' with an aim to empower beggars and ragpickers in the national capital.

Under the scheme, the beggars and ragpickers will soon manage toilet complexes in the city.

Chairman, Department of Environment Management Services Committee of NDMC, Vijay Prakash Pandey has said that the corporation would provide institutional help in forming cooperatives of beggars and rag pickers.

He added that the cooperatives will be entrusted the task of running the toilet blocks.
