The Nepal Government has appointed Bed Prasad Bhattarai as the Secretary of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
Bhattarai had been serving as the Acting-Secretary at the NHRC for over two years since the NHRC Secretary retired, reports The Himalayan Times.
The constitutional rights body had around two months ago recommended Bhattarai, who joined the NHRC as the Regional Director in March 2006, for promotion.
Bhattarai had monitored the situation of human rights, especially the civil and political rights of the people in the region, according to the NHRC during the People's Movement II in 2006, Madhesh Movement, Tharuhat Movement of Nepal and the Constituent Assembly election.
