Nepal govt. least interested to resolve Madhesi issue says Maoist leader Dahal

Unified Communist Party of Nepal -Maoist(CPN-Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has expressed discontentment at the government's policy and programme for lacking clear vision in dealing with Madhesi issues and conducting civic polls.

Dahal taking part in a meeting of the Legislature Parliament on the government's policy and programme yesterday said that it would be difficult to hold local bodies' polls without forging political consensus.

"Major parties have no differences regarding local polls. However, we should look into the validity of the polls as we will have to conduct polls for the second time in a gap of a few months to implement the provisions of the new constitution if the polls were held in November/December without resolving the concerns," the Himalayan Times quoted him as saying.

He said the polls should be held only after parties forged consensus and resolved constitutional complexities.

Highlighting the document on the issue of Madhesis, the Maoist leader said the document reflected the government's unwillingness to resolve their problems.

He also expressed discontentment at the lack of vision in the policy and programme to accomplish the remaining work of the peace process.

"There is still debate on whether the war-related cases should be looked under regular justice system or they should be settled through the transitional justice system.The policy and programme lack clarity on this," he said.

He claimed that his party was working to forge consensus by bringing two other major parties Nepali Congress and CPN-UML together.

"We want to stop the anomalies of forming and demolishing governments," he said.

He pressed that support of Nepali Congress and United Democratic Madhesi Front was also imperative to forge national consensus.

He, however, lauded the document for bringing socialist programmes as per the spirit of the new constitution.
