The family members of Subhash Chandra Bose have sought an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the issue of declassification of files related to the late freedom fighter.

Chandra Bose, the grandnephew of the late freedom fighter, on Sunday said that the PMO has asked them to submit a list of those wanting to meet the Prime Minister.

"We sought appointment with the Prime Minister yesterday regarding declassification of Netaji's files... PMO has requested us to send a list of Bose family members who would like to meet the Prime Minister, we are preparing list," Chandra Bose told ANI here.

"We've also expressed wish to take along certain researchers, who have done work on Netaji files. PMO requested for both the lists," he added.

Earlier in April this year, declassified intelligence agency files revealed that former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru spied on Bose's family for 20 years.

The Intelligence Bureau (IB) files revealed an unprecedented surveillance on Bose's family between 1948 and 1968, which was reported directly to Nehru. The agency intercepted, copied letters written by family and tailed their visits within country and abroad.

Prime Minister Modi had during his visit to Germany in April met the freedom fighter's family members.
