A new book, 'Premieres Dames' (First Ladies), has revealed about the "miserable" lives of the eight first ladies of France, from Yvonne de Gaulle to Valerie Trierweiler with a possible exception of Bernadette Chirac.

The book, which is written by journalist Robert Schneider and published by Le Point, showed that though the wives of Presidents of France were surrounded by luxury, they didn't have any formal role and were like virtual prisoners in the Elysee Palace, Independent reported.

Schneider said that despite the unfaithfulness, all of the first ladies were in love with their spouse.
