A new video released by the Islamic State shows British journalist John Cantlie, a captive of the extremist group for two years, warning of "Third Gulf War".

Cantlie said in the seven-and-a-half minutes video- released as the fourth of eight episodes of a series called Lend Me Your Ears- that the West was gearing up for a third Gulf War following the "meteoritic" rise of the Islamic State.

Dressed in an orange suit similar to the prison uniform at Guantanamo Bay, Cartlie, who appeared to be reading from a script, quoted US President Barak Obama as saying the campaign against the militants would be a "long-term project" that would require a "broad international coalition, The Independent reported.

He also questioned the intervention by the West and America's concern about the fate of a minority in Muslim lands, adding that modern history was full of examples of religious minorities being crushed and neither the US nor anyone else said a thing.

A freelance journalist from Haslemere in Surry, Cantlie was taken hostage by IS in November 2012.
