The President Maithripala Sirisena-led government in Sri Lanka has predictably recalled all political appointees of the previous Mahinda Rajapaksa regime holding diplomatic positions overseas.
The Colombo Page web site, quoting local media reports, said that 27 ambassadors or high commissioners and 26 holding ranks below the level of Head of Mission have been recalled by the nation's foreign ministry.
It said that those recalled have been notified that their tours of duty have ended with effect from March 10 this year and they have been instructed to return home.
These include relatives of politicians and public officials closely connected to those in the former regime.
