A Danish architect has revealed the designs for the final tower at the World Trade Center in New York, which has been slated for the 2020 opening, nearly 20 years after the original terrorist attacks.
Bjarke Ingels said 2 World Trade Centre will be 80 storeys high and is designed to appear as seven separate boxes stacked on top of each other, the Mirror has reported.
The building design features a series of outdoor gardens on the upper floors of each block. The stacking creates 38,000 sf (3,530 sm) of outdoor terraces full of lush greenery and giving stunning views of the surrounding cityscape.
News Corp and 21st Century Fox have signed tentative leases for offices in the building, and are expected to transfer its new headquarters to it, bringing in 5,000 employees to occupy the lower floors.
Seven World Trade Center was completed in 2006 and number four opened in November 2013. The remaining tower, Three World Trade Center, has been scheduled to open in 2017.
