The New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has reportedly announced that it will play a shortened home series against India between January 19 and February 18 next year.

This came after reports emerged that India wanted to keep the tour as brief as possible.

According to Sport24, India would play two Tests and five one-dayers against New Zealand in the tour, which will be the first by the world number two Test nation since 2009.

Although the trip was supposed to include three Tests, five one-dayers and one Twenty20 in February and March next year under the ICC's Future Tours Programme, however, the report said that India was keen to curtail the visit so they can participate in the Asia Cup, which begins in late February.

Admitting that discussions with the Board of Cricket Control for India (BCCI) over the tour had taken longer than they hoped, NZC chief executive David White had said that it is 'brilliant' that New Zealand will be playing five ODIs against India given the proximity of Cricket World Cup in 2015.

However, the report said that it is yet to be confirmed whether the NZC will receive compensation from the BCCI for potential revenue foregone after one Test and one T20 were cut from the tour.
