Overcoming economic hurdles, a newspaper delivery boy, Shiv Kumar has successfully cleared the entrance examination of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Joka, in Kolkata.
"I got all the support in my education through my friends, family and teachers. But, I was not financially sound to pay my fees due to which I had to find someone who could pay for my education. So I phoned one of my customers, Krishna Vedvasan and he helped me by funding my fees for tenth, PUC, Engineering and CAT. He is the one who guided me to take up CAT and told me that once you get into IIM you will have a different lifestyle, so he is the one who guided me", said Shiv.
Shiv comes from a poor family in Basanwadi, Bangalore, but because he was studious and hard working, he always had the encouragement and support of his teachers, friends and parents.
In spite of encountering such difficult times, Shiv never gave up. Initially Shiv did seek financial help from some of his supporters but soon decided to earn for himself.

In order to support his family and his education, kumar decided to deliver newspapers at a young age.
His determination, perseverance and encouragement from parents helped him focus on his goal.
Finally he achieved what he wanted to and now he plans to establish a charitable society for students who are academically capable but are not able to live their dream due to financial constraints.
Kumar did not let the economic disability cause hindrance in fulfilling his dream.
Emotional mother Jaya Amma said, "Our family survived because of my son, who delivered newspapers everyday. He has struggled a lot in his life. I made sure he ate properly; woke up on time, so he could work and study. We are really happy that he has achieved so much.
