Arunachal Pradesh's Civil Aviation and Transport Minister Jomde Kena has lauded the Arunachal Vivekananda Yuva Shakti (AVYS) for its continued humanitarian service.

Kena said that the joining of doctors and religious leaders was proof of the good deeds of an NGO like AVYS.

He was addressing the seventh foundation day of the AVYS at Vivekananda Hall here.

Terming blood donation as a noble act, Food and Civil Supply Parliamentary Secretary Nyamar Karbak lauded the AVYS for its path-breaking efforts for humanity, particularly in this multi-cultural and multi-religious tribal state.

Founder Ramesh Jeke, through a PowerPoint presentation, highlighted the journey of the AVYS since its inception in 2008.

State PWD Minister Gojen Gadi said, "We are proud of the youth engaged in such humanitarian works and always support them to work for the greater welfare of Arunachal."

"A crying mother in front of a hospital looking for blood to save her daughter about to be operated changed my life to form AVYS," Jeke said, adding that AVYS volunteers have saved 1,500 lives by donating blood.

He said over 7,000 units of blood have been collected so far through donations in educational, religious institutions and festivals.

AVYS advisor Tukbom Ligu said that blood donation camps organised so far have saved many valuable lives. The endeavour would continue ahead to serve the people, he reiterated.

A maiden AVYS souvenir 'LIFE' was released on the occasion and 46 personalities, including parents, were felicitated on behalf of Federation of Indian Blood Donors Organisation to mark the occasion.

Health and Family Welfare Parliamentary Secretary Karya Bagang, Maharaj, NHM MD P N Thungon, H and FW joint director Dr. M Lego, APSACS P D Dr Riken Rena, Dr. Budh, RHMH doctors, among others, were present on the occasion.
