Nicole Kidman has been signed on to play the role of an evil taxidermist in an upcoming film, based on the adventures of the duffle coat-clad and marmalade-loving fictional character, Paddington Bear.

The blonde beauty told a UK publication that she was quite shocked when her agent called and informed her about the opportunity to star in a movie about Paddington Bear, the BBC reported.

'The Paperboy' star asserted that she just had to do the bear film because she was read his stories when she was little.

The 46-year-old actress added that she knows all about the bear's adventures and what mischief he got up to.

The film, which will see Colin Firth lending his voice to the bear, will be made by Harry Potter producer David Heyman and is expected to be released around Christmas 2014.

'The King's Speech' star will be joined by 'Downtown Abbey's Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins and Julie Walters in the flick.
