F1 legend Niki Lauda has warned F1 aces that the tyre-explosion incident at Silverstone last weekend was a big wake-up call and said that it was fortunate that nobody got hit in the head by rubber and get killed.
According to the Mirror, the legend had backed Lewis Hamilton and his fellow racers' boycott threat for the German Grand Prix, with a fiery smash at the old Nurburgring 37 years ago prompting him to lead a boycott at his time.
However, the first two practice sessions at the track went on without many issues, with Pirelli using stronger Kevlar-belted rubber tyres for this race, the report added.
The great also said that until now nobody was involved in the safety debate and nothing had happened since Senna's death.
