Microblogging network service Twitter has stopped displaying ads and has dramatically reduced the number of ads it displays, to a small group of most prominent and active users.

According to recode.net, Twitter is an ad-free experience for the prominent users for the past few months.

According to sources, the social networking company has clarified that it is an attempt to get some of its VIP users to stay engaged with the service.

Based in San Francisco Twitter has more than 25 offices around the world. The service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with more than 100 million users posting 340 million tweets a day in 2012. The service also handled 1.6 billion search queries per day.
