'No issue of federal structure being violated': Naidu on Kerala House incident

Attempting to downplay the Delhi Police action on Kerala House, Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday said the cops did not conduct any raid and added that there was no issue of federal structure being violated in the recent incident.

"Where is the issue of federal structure I am not able to understand? The information I have is some fellow wanted to create a scene. The police got information and they just went there to enquire. A person, who is suspected of doing this, has been doing this earlier also," Naidu told the media here.

"The police went there, made enquiry and came back," he added.

Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi had earlier defended the action on the state guest house, saying they had done nothing illegal and were well within their rights under the Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act 1994 to investigate.

"We are an instrumentality of law and when we get a call, we have no choice but to respond. And in this case we acted as per the law and are entitled to act in this fashion under the Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act 1994,"said Bassi.

He added that they had no choice but to respond since the call they had received was from a person, who had a history of taking the law into his own hands.

20 police officials went to Kerala House on Monday evening after Vishnu Gupta, a Hindu Sena leader, called and complained that the canteen at the state guest house was serving beef.
