Nokia has made an unexpected return to mobile devices with an Android tablet aimed at the Chinese market, a report said.

Nokia's head of products Sebastian Nystroem said in a statement that the company was pleased to bring the Nokia brand back into the hands of the consumers with N1 Android tablet, reported News.com.au.

The tablet will be made by Taiwanese technology group Foxconn, which is Apple's biggest supplier and will be launched in early 2015. It is expected to be priced at 249 dollars excluding taxes.

Nokia also plans to expand the sales to other markets.

The device showed off at the Slush technology fair in Helsinki, looked very similar to Apple's iPad mini with a 7.9-inch screen.

However, unlike its predecessor, Lumia 2520, which employed a Windows operating system, the N1 tablet uses an Android platform.

Nokia's comeback was unexpected as it shifted its focus on telecom services following the sale of its handset division to U.S. software giant Microsoft in April in a 7.52 billion dollar deal.
