North and South Korean border guards exchanged gunfire across their heavily militarized border on Sunday, South Korea said.

According to the BBC, officials said that North Korean troops approached the demarcation line separating the two sides, prompting South Korean soldiers to fire warning shots.

In retaliation, North Korean troops fired back, starting off an exchange of shots that lasted for about ten minutes.

This incident is reportedly the second exchange of fire between the two estranged countries in the last ten days.

However, no injuries were reported following the shooting.
