Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday said there is nothing surprising about the Pentagon saying that Islamabad has been indulging in a proxy war against India.
"Everybody knows that Pakistan always has had a policy of state-sponsored terrorism and that is having an effect on India.... What Pakistan is doing is incorrect," Rijiju told ANI.
Rijiju was responding to an over 100 page report by the Pentagon, accusing Pakistan of providing safe havens to terrorist groups, and using them as a proxy force to counter India's better military, and to offset its loosening grip on Afghanistan.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) welcomed the Pentagon's report acknowledging India's long-held view on Pakistan.
"For long we have held that the issue of terrorism should not be segmented, and if the international community is now welcoming and acknowledging the fact that terrorism derives support from Pakistan, it is something we welcome, because this has been our view for a long time," MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said.
The Pentagon, in its reports, has also blamed militant groups based in Pakistan for terror attack in on the Indian consulate in Herat.
