Newly-crowned Olympic gold medallist Andy Murray continued his rich vein of form as he booked his place in the finals of the Cincinnati Masters following a straight-game victory over Canadian No. 1 Milos Raonic in their men's singles event.

The world number two swept aside his Canadian opponent Raonic 6-3, 6-3 in a thrilling semi-final contest that lasted one and a half hour.

With the win, Murray has now set up a summit showdown clash against Marin Cilic, who also made it to the finals of the tournament following a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria in the contest that was delayed for two hours by rain.

While Cilic would have less than 12 hours of rest before taking the court for Sunday's final, the Briton said that he was also feeling the effects of playing a lot of tennis in a short period of time.

Murray said that although it had been hard for him to play constantly coming from Rio, he was all set to put his best foot forward in Cincinnati finals, Sport24 reported.

Murray, who owns four titles in 2016, will be playing his seventh straight final after winning his 22nd consecutive match.

Earlier,Murray defeated France's Juan Martin del Potro 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 to clinch his second consecutive singles gold medal at Olympics in Rio de Janeiero.
