One person has been arrested in connection with an incident where a 21-year-old woman, college student, was dragged out of a car and allegedly gang-raped by over 10 men in Ludhiana, Punjab police said on Tuesday.
The police said a search for the other accused in the case is being conducted by several police teams based on sketches made with the help of the victim.
Punjab police have released sketches of suspects in the case of gangrape. DIG Ranbir Singh Khatra said "Fifteen to sixteen people are suspected to be involved in the crime and we are screening many people."
A woman, aged around 20, was allegedly gang-raped by 10-11 men near Issewal village in Ludhiana. The incident took place on February 9, but came to the fore on February 10 when the victim informed the police.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) VS Brar, the victim informed the police that she, along with her friend, were going from Ludhiana city towards Issewal village on Saturday night when their car was stopped by two unknown motorcycle-borne men.
The men started throwing bricks on the car and then dragged them out. Those bike-borne men later called few more men and raped the woman, the police said.
