Security forces in Kashmir on Monday killed one militant, belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen, who was hiding in a house in Qazigund town.
The militant, Javed Salfi, and the security forces exchanged rounds of gunfire, forcing the personnel later to use explosives to destroy the rebel's hideout.
"The militants threw a grenade and started firing from the other side. The encounter started at around 9.50 a.m. and it continued for hours. We later used an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) to foil any attempt of the militant from escaping. The double storey building collapsed and the body of the militant is under the debris, which we will recover when the debris is removed," said Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar.
The Kashmir region has witnessed numerous militant attacks, insurgency and infiltration attempts from across the border in the last two decades.
